Assistant Professor
School of Geography, Clark University, Worcester, MA
Clark University seeks to fill a full-time one-year teaching position at the assistant professor level in Geographic Information Sciences to begin September 2008. The professor will be responsible for 5 GIS courses during the 2008-2009 academic year. One course will be an introductory Vector GIS course using ESRI software. Other courses will be based on the professor’s areas of expertise. Knowledge of Raster GIS using the Idrisi software is a plus. Clark is especially interested in GIS professionals who can teach technical courses in: Advanced Vector Analysis, Spatial Database Development, Computer Programming for GIS, and Web-based GIS. Desirable areas of application include: Environmental Science, Community Development, International Development, Public Health, Public Participation, Humanitarian Assistance, and Business Management. This position is based in the Department of International Development, Community, and Environment (IDCE) and will serve the needs of both IDCE (www.clarku.edu/departments/idce) and Clark’s School of Geography (www.clarku.edu/departments/geography). Postdoctoral Research Position
Department of Geography and Earth Sciences, University of North Carolina, Charlotte, NC
We seek a post-doctoral associate with talents in modeling land-use change, urban dynamics, and impacts of urban-exurban growth in the rapidly growing metropolitan region of Charlotte, NC. This position is part of a new award from the Renaissance Computing Institute (RENCI) bringing together the Center for Applied Geographic Information Science, the Urban Institute, and the Visualization Center to address enduring trends in metropolitan growth and development and their consequences on the urban infrastructure, mobility, ecosystem services and natural resources, and quality of life. Qualified candidates will possess an interdisciplinary background applicable to the understanding of economic, social, and environmental dimensions of urbanization, such as work in geography, land-use change dynamics, urban and regional planning, sustainable development, regional science, urban-regional analysis, and/or landscape ecology and environmental science. Strong analytical and spatial modeling skills are desired. Evidence of strong publication potential and ability to assist with generating external funding is essential. Salary is $40,000 per year plus student health benefits. The position will be located at UNC Charlotte in the Center for Applied Geographic Information Science with an appointment of 2 years pending performance. As part of a rapidly growing research university, the Center is pursuing several federally funded projects involving both basic and applied research. The post-doctoral associate will be co-advised by Drs. Ross Meentemeyer and Jean-Claude Thill.
