The 2014 Global Land Project Open Science Meeting program will be a combination of plenary sessions involving international figureheads and experts in the field, followed by parallel sessions covering a wide range of topics within the broad themes of the conference. In addition, poster sessions will take place during lunchtimes and early evenings. We invite you to submit abstracts for presentations and posters for this leading global conference in Land Science. Your contribution should reference one of the conference sessions.

Dear GLP community, Among all the news that we are bringing to you this month, we are glad to announce our new report: GLP Report No.7: Incorporating human behaviour and decision making processes in land use and climate system models. This report was based on the results of the IGBP/IHDP Global Land Project (GLP) and CSIRO workshop “Linking models of human behaviour and decision making processes with land system models” held at Lake Crackenback in Australia on November 28-December 1, 2011.

Many issues and scientific questions remain to be addressed and discussed, such as tropical/sub-tropical cities versus mid-latitude cities, direct and indirect radiative forcing of aerosols in megacities and the surrounding regions.

The theme “Asian Urbanism and Beyond” is set for scholars around the globe to explore the nature, evolution and uniqueness of urbanization issues and processes in Asian mega-cities, especially surrounding the relevancy of theories developed in Western contexts in describing, explaining and prescribing urban phenomena in the diverse social, economic and political Asian contexts.

Dear GLP community, Another year is finishing and with it we see the rise of great expectations for a new year that will be beginning soon. Looking back, 2012 was a year of big changes for the Global Land Project. New chair, new IPO staff and relocation to Brazil, new scientific steering committee members, 2 news nodal offices, the preparation for the 2014 Open Science Meeting, new strategies of communication and more. And the most important thing: the GLP community strengthened.

On Dec. 4, 2012, at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, a fueling exercise for the Landsat Data Continuity Mission's (LDCM) Atlas V 401 rocket took place.
