Meiyappan, P., and Jain, A. K. (2012), ‘Three distinct global estimates of historical land-cover change and land-use conversions for over 200 years’, Frontiers of Earth Science, 6(2), 122-139.

The historical land cover maps for about 200 years describe annual historical changes in land cover and underlying land-use conversions at 0.5 °x0.5 ° resolution. Three distinct estimates of land-cover change and land-use conversions were reconstructed using three different datasets on cropland and pastureland. The method of reconstruction utilized multiple years of MODIS land cover data (Friedl et al. 2010) as boundary conditions to implicitly account for unaccounted land-cover change. The land-cover maps produced for recent years are consistent with MODIS satellite estimates.

Funding opportunities for integrated residential land-use change, land management, and transport model

The University of Waterloo is seeking research personnel for a newly funding project that will develop an integrated agent-based simulation model that links residential land market activity, landscaping management, and transportation decisions in Waterloo Region, Ontario, Canada

40 Years of Landsat Satellites talk

40 Years of Landsat Satellites talk

For forty years, Landsat has protected and enhanced our quality of life by tracking changes on the Earth's surface over time, creating a vast global database of land images and data. Join us as our panel of experts discusses how Landsat helps us track wildfires, assess agricultural challenges, and mitigate water management issues. Providing hundreds of millions of dollars in estimated value to the U.S. economy per year, Landsat is an essential program to provide for our nation's future remote sensing needs.
