A new joint ESG-GLP Working Group on Governance of Social-Ecological Systems is keen to build an interdisciplinary community of researchers interested in improving theories, concepts, models, frameworks, and tools to better grasp the intricacies of the human-nature interface and respond to the multiple challenges of studying emergent SES phenomena.

The Early-Career Fellowship (ECF) is a pilot program launched in 2022, which aims to implement the development concept of innovation, coordination, green, openness, and sharing, and help promote the achievement of sustainable development goals. The ECF program is organized by Future Earth Global Secretariat Hub China with support from China Association for Science and Technology.

Global Land Programme is hosting an online event "Cultivating the Future: Co-Designing the GLP Early Career Network" on November 15th, 2023 at 10:00 AM EST. This meeting will discuss GLP's new Early Career Network (ECN). The early survey in September resulted in more than 200 responses, which we are mining for ideas and inspiration for this network launch webinar. During the event you will hear what we learned from the first survey, add your own input on next steps, and be invited to contribute to further activities as network leaders.

Garik Gutman and Chris Justice attended the Space Week Nordeste Conference in Fortaleza, Brazil (Aug 14-21, 2023). This event attracted early career scientists and renowned researchers from Brazil along with international researchers and NASA Space and Earth scientists. At the opening of the meeting, Garik Gutman (NASA HQ) gave a keynote presentation on advances in land-cover and land-use change research with the focus on South America, particularly on northeast Brazil.

Dr. Eleanor (Kellie) Stokes (PI) was recently announced as the winner of the S&R Foundation 2022 Kuno Award for Applied Science for the Social Good.  At the Universities Space Research Association, Dr. Stokes leads the Earth from Space Institute and has been widely recognized as a scientist who is proactive and passionate about the value of geospatial technology to the economy and society. The award, which includes $100,000 in funding, supports early- to mid-career women who are social innovators focused on addressing modern challenges.
